by photochick~ I have lots and lots of favorite Christmas recipes, so it's hard to choose. Since THE day is careening toward us, I thought I'd leave you with a fairly simple one that is oh so good. My mom always cooks a big crock pot full of apple cider. Not only does it taste delicious, but it fills the entire house with the most wonderful smell.
Homemade Apple Cider
Ingredients:
1 gallon Apple Cider
1 Large, Red Apple
1 Orange
Cloves
3 Cinnamon Sticks
Directions:
You will first fill the apple with cloves. Just stick the sharp end right in the apple like a bright light. Next, slit the orange in four places. You will still have one orange when done, but it will be sliced in four places.
In a regular sized crock pot, add the apple, orange, three cinamon sticks and fill the remainder of the crock pot with the apple cider. (You may add a quarter cup sugar if desired for sweeter taste, we don't do this.) Turn on high until it gets hot, then turn down to low. It should simmer on low for 2 or 3 hours until the smell fills your home and taste is to die for.
You may add more cider as needed to refill the pot.
