by photochick~ I've been trying to brainstorm ideas for things to keep Punkin occupied once the baby arrives. Among those plans is a "quiet space," as we like to call it, in the baby's room. There's this wierd little nook beside the closet that serves no real purpose.
It occured to me one day that it would be a perfect spot to make Punkin a little spot for playing quietly while I feed the baby. We started with a big reading pillow with a thick back and sides and added a few throw pillows that match the baby's room.
Then we swiped a basket from Punkin's room and let him pick a few books that he can "read" by himself . . . this translates to photo books that don't need to be read by momma since I will be a little busy. He added a couple of matchbox cars and it was a done deal.
We even did a practice run where I sat in the glider and Punkin read and played quietly, then he cleaned up everything all by himself because he's a "big boy" as he explained.
If it works even HALF that well in real life, I'll be thrilled. Here's to hoping!
So, what other tricks did you use to keep your big kid occupied while you dealt with the all consuming busyness of a newborn? I'm all ears!!!!!
We did nothing as creative as this. Very good idea! If I recall correctly, I did a lot of feeding one while hoding the other in the other small portion of my lap. I do not recoment (especially with a c-section incession) I also read a book to big man while feeding little man. We would sit on the couch, big man would sit beside me and turn the pages while I read. But keep in mind he was just shy of turning 2. Punkin is definitly a "big boy" and I think he'll do great!
