by socialchick~ It is crazy how things from when you were growing up were instilled in your brain and no matter what you do to get rid of them they are there. I was thinking about rules and polite gestures that my parents instilled in me that are still there.
When someone calls you, you never let them go unless you have to hurry and leave. If someone calls you it is polite for them to let you go first. Yea well this doesn't always happen especially with crying babies and a 2 year old drama queen.
Never ever invite your self over to someone's house. No matter if they gave you an open invitation, they still must ask you every time you go. I have tried to let this go, but it is difficult.
It is not polite to call and ask someone what they are having for supper before you head over to eat with them. No matter if it is your grandmother or mother. You should be satisfied with whatever they are cooking.
I'm sure my mother would tell you that there are some things that haven't seemed to stick with me, but for some reason these are things that I still think of and try to do. What are some things that are instilled in your brain?
I don’t know if it’s instilled from my parents, but I have always lived by the golden rule ... with my own twist: Treat others how you want to be treated in the same circumstances.

Using manners like yes sir and yes ma'am. I still do it today and correct my kids when they forget to.

i've got the sir's and mam's bug as well. as well as do not answer someone older than you with "what"
Also on my list:
Never sing at the table.
Don't stare (no matter how bad you want to)
Children should NEVER talk back to an adult.(i don't always love this one, i like to let my chicklet say how he feels, but the sassy lip doesn't fly)
These are just a few. Cracks me up what becomes ingrained.

Never separate the salt from the pepper, even if someone asks for just one of them!
