by singerchick~ I'm sad to say that my memory is not very good. I know the chicks are saying sarcastically, "No, really? We had no clue." But because of this, choosing a favorite Christmas tradition is a little hard for me.
We grew up doing the same things as everyone else. Opening gifts from Santa on Christmas morning and spending all day with family eating, talking and just being together. Those memories are great, but no unique tradition stood out to me until I started thinking about my grandparents who I don't get to share Christmas with anymore.
I thought about my Grandma L and my Papa who I miss more than I ever thought I would. Mr. Singer and I were just talking about this the other day. You take your grandparents for granted until one day they're not there to call up and chat with. And we were discussing how we should really cherish the time we have with those family members still here.
In all the grandparent reminiscing I thought of a very fun tradition we had with my Papa. Every year Papa took the four of us grandchildren shopping a couple of days before Christmas. We could get whatever we wanted and believe me we loaded up the buggy. The best part of this tradition for me as I look back now was not getting the things, but just being with Papa and my cousins; creating memories that would last forever.
This is the four of us with Papa at K-Mart. You can laugh. It was probably early 90's. Can you guess who I am and which one Social is?
I must say that I miss them soooo much! Call us spoiled but those were some great shopping trips.
Although we have to go to 5 different places for Christmas (not counting our own houses) I feel blessed that our kids still have 5 great grandparents all of their grandparents (6)
