by photochick~ I love Christmas music. As a matter of act, I was listening to it BEFORE Thanksgiving on our local 98.5. (socialchick and singerchick are rolling their eyes as they read this, I know)
So many songs, so little time. We must get started EARLY! I've been teaching Punkin Christmas songs during our morning and afternoon drive. So far we've conquered Rudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer, Deck the Halls, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. So much fun.
I have so many favorites, it's hard to choose, but definately one of my all time favorites is Oh Come Let Us Adore Him. So classic and beautiful. My favorite is when singerchick would sing it during praise and worship in let's say, July. Such a beautiful worship song any time of the year.
So, today's contest is none other than . . . drumroll please . . . what is your favorite Christmas song? Feel free to include a really sappy story (but true) about why the song has a special meaning to you, or just how you and your kids dance around the living room in your jammies on Christmas morning.
Just get it posted by 8 p.m. CST tonight to be entered! Winner will be chosen randomly and will win Third Day's Christmas Offerings cd.
My favorite song is usually whatever I'm singing at the moment... so this week it's the Advent carol, "O Come O Come Emmanuel". It is a thoughtful song that helps my heart prepare. I grew up in a church where we did the advent candle, both at church and at home. I miss that and want to start that tradition anew. Emmanuel... God with us. What a promise.

I love anything by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. My FAVORITE song right now is For the Sake of Our Brother. I love it because it tells the reason for Christmas.
[FOR THE SAKE OF OUR BROTHER]
In a stable
In a manger
In the cold winter's air
In the arms of his mother
A child's lying there
In a city
In a village
Though the years have gone by
The child still remains
With the dream still close by
And each year on this night that child reawakens
And each year on this night that hope rebegins
That the dream he has offered might one day be taken
For the sake of our brother
For the child who's forgotten
For the dream that is still lying there
O' come all ye faithful
Joyful and triumphant
O' come ye, o' come ye
To bethlehem
Come and adore him
Born the king of angels
O' come let us adore him
O' come let us adore him
O' come let us adore him
Christ the lord

"O Holy Night" (especially when sung by a guy!) Just a very powerful song in the words alone.

I have two favorites. My favorite funny Christmas song is "I wanna a hipopatamus for Christmas", and the other is "Christmas Shoes". The Hippo song is just to funny and I love to hear and watch my husband sing it. And Christmas shoes reminds me of how people should act during the holidays.

There are so many I could name, but my two favorites are "Santa Baby" and "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas".

No way around telling this without telling on my age, but........oh, well.
In the era I grew up, Christmas specials were a treat. I loved cartoons and the only time cartoons were on was on Saturdays from like, 7 am to noon. So, when the holidays rolled around, I always looked forward to the Peanuts specials. One of my all time favorite specials was the "A Charlie Brown Christmas". It tells the true meaning of Christmas, as Linus wraps his blanket around his head and tells the true story of Christmas looking like a shepherd.
Oh, yeah, I'm supposed to be telling you about my favorite Christmas song! The Peanuts Christmas soundtrack gets my family pumped up. It's wonderful. I bought it many years ago and it's usually the first CD to come out in early November.
Any music that brings back childhood memories is special.
Merry Christmas, Chicks!

I enjoy Christmas music....a lot. However, my favorite changes, like most other favorites I have. Currently I would have to say it is I heard the bells on Christmas Day, by Casting Crowns off their new album...stellar! If I had to choose an all time favorite it would have to be Feliz Navidad, that is just a fun, fun song. Least favorite, in fact I think it is one of the few I just don't like at all, is Carol of the Bells, to me it's just scary, especially on movies like Home Alone, scary, scary, scary! But to end on a good note, I was introduced to Dominick the Christmas Donkey when I was working in an office in Alachua, just a fun song, you should look it up!

But I also love Kenny Rogers singing Mary did you know. Great one.

Oh and BTW : 98.5 started Christmas music THE DAY AFTER HALLOWEEN. So I'm guessing we aren't the only ones who love it. So stop hatin' peeps..lol
Just sayin.

Mine is an old but good song-I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS (if only in my dreams) My Dad was in three wars, two of them I was old enough to see my Mom hold His picture and cry as she listened to that song. He was a bundle of laughter and Mr. Christmas himself. I really miss them both and think of them each time I hear that song.

One of my all time favorites is "Born to Die" I sang this solo in church as a child, and it always brings tears to my eyes when I hear this song and think of the sacrifice Jesus made for me, for all of us. Please read the lyrics:
Shepherds gaze in wonder
While angel voices sing
This night of nights has come
And brought the world the long-awaited King
The earth is filled with gladness
And yet the heavens weep
For heaven's eyes can see
He was born to die for me
Jesus
Baby Jesus
Is that a tear in your eye
Jesus
Baby Jesus
You must know you were born to die
It must have broken God's heart
For the future He could see
Yet He formed His hands and feet
Knowing one day they'd be nailed to a tree
So all the world could know it
A gift came from above
For God so loved the world
That He gave His only Son
Jesus
Baby Jesus
With a tear of love in your eye
Jesus
Baby Jesus
You knew you were born to die
One of my other absolute favorites is Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song) by Amy Grant. I was Mary in a play when I was about 12 and sang this song. Since then I think of it every Christmas. The words are soooo very powerful, and I can just see Mary there thinking all of these things.
I have traveled many moonless nights
Cold and weary with a babe inside
And I wonder what I've done
Holy Father you have come
And chosen me now
To carry your son
I am waiting in a silent prayer
I am frightened by the load I bear
In a world as cold as stone
Must I walk this path alone
Be with me now
Be with me now
[Chorus:]
Breath of heaven
Hold me together
Be forever near me
Breath of heaven
Breath of heaven
Lighten my darkness
Pour over me your holiness
For you are holy
Breath of heaven
Do you wonder as you watch my face
If a wiser one should have had my place
But I offer all I am
For the mercy of your plan
Help me be strong
Help me be
Help me
And for fun, I love Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas is you" and "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays" by NSYNC LoL =)

Most of the songs I love have already been mentioned, so I'll just reiterate. My absolute favorites are "Mary Did You Know", "Christmas Shoes", "Go Tell it on the Mountain", and "Little Drummer Boy". On the lighter side, I enjoy "Santa Baby", "Walkin' In a Winter Wonderland", "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause",and, of course, "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas". Okay, so I love them ALL!!!

"Mary Did You Know" is my fave. I guess having a little boy of my own is what makes this song so special...to think that Mary had a little sweet boy of her own that would be our Savior.

Malyn, I also love "Breath of Heaven". And photochick, I'm coming around on Christmas songs...trying to do it for the chicklets. :-)

I love ALL christmas music......my mama has always loved it and as long as I can remember started playing it as soon as Thanksgiving was over!! "Oh Come Let Us Adore Him" and "Little Drummer Boy", two of my favorites.
I also love "Blue Christmas" sung by Elvis because someone very special to me can sing this and sound just like Elvis.

My favorite Christmas song is " Mary Did You Know". I like the version from Kathy Matea (sp). She was or is a country singer. One year I got a free cd from buying wrangler jeans and this song was on this album. It gives me goose bumps everytime I hear it.

So I have to be honest and say "Grandma got run over by a reindeer!" That is just such a funny classic!! LOL! I also like "I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus!"

My favorite fun one is " Jingle Bell Rock." Her memory may not serve very well b/c I'm sure if we had not spent every spare moment together in high school and kept in close contact since she wouldn't remember my name but none other than Photochick and myself danced in front of our whole school to a routine we came up with to this song and I do my best to keep it going with my kids and improvise as we go.

Okay so I'm with Baby CHick. I love Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas is You simply because I love the beat (it's so catchy). When I hear it I can't help but start dancing...even when Im driving. I also love any Christmas song sung by Josh Groban.

I love "Walking in a Winter Wonderland"... I don't have the best singing voice but I can belt this one out and not get dirty looks. I also just love the idea of cuddling with some hot chocolate and snuggling in my blanket with the one I love (hubby now).
