So I'm cheating a bit here. I'm supposed to be telling you about one of my favorite Christmas recipes, but I had to show you some photos that I will treasure forever. And they are food related, so it sort of works, huh?
You see, my grandmother makes the best dumplins in the whole world. I know, you thought your grandmother did, but trust me, it's mine. On top of that, dumplins are one of my favorite foods in the whold world. Always have been. Growing up I lived about an hour and a half away from my grandmother and every time I would go for a visit she would make me dumplins. It's a treat that I still look forward to as much today as I did when I was ten years old, although age has robbed my grandmother of the ability to whip out dumplins spur of the moment. Now they come only on holidays, but they are still oh so good.
During the Thanksgiving break my grandmother came to visit for a couple of days and she taught me how to make these wonderful dumplins. I videoed and photographed her while she showed me the intricacies of dumplin making full of a pinch of this and a dash of that. I'd like to say I learned it well enough to share with you here, but no such luck. That will require more practice. For now, I do have photos that are priceless. At least to me.
I hope they will remind you of that special treat that your grandmother made for you with love and care. Feel free to tell us what food will always remind you of a loved one. These are the memories and traditions that are most important. Those that point us to the true reason for the season and remind us of those we love.
Granny and Punkin make dumplins.
Kneed the dough.
Roll the dough really thin.
Cut the dumplins into strips. Almost ready to chow down!
This made me cry. What a treasure!

That is pretty cool. I remember making dumplings with my grandmother when I was little. I hate I never did learn how to make them like she did, and I haven't attempted to from any various recipes on the internet. Hmm maybe one of these days. Good luck!

Yeah, for me and my grandma it's home-made biscuits. She taught me how to make them last year and now I always think of her when she or I bake them.
