by photochick~ So it's no surprise to anyone who has ever met me, or perhaps even stood in a grocery line within 50 feet of me, that I was not an Obama supporter. Not for any of the reasons as stupid as many of the email forwards that went around this political season, but for reasons related to issues in which I believe one way and Obama, well, he believes the exact opposite.
Here in my world where you grow up and make informed decisions based on what you hold most dearly, I call that a legitimate difference of opinion and good reason to not support a candidate. I personally believe that the need to protect unborn life trumps all other issues, no matter how little money is in my pocketbook these days.
And I happen to have been a social science minor where I learned by studying much history that socialism does not work. Sounds good, but no matter how hard it has been tried, still, does not work. That in fact, the free enterprise system is the best system in the world. Not perfect, but as good as it gets. In my opinion, many of Obama's positions will indeed move our country away from free enterprise.
So, you get it, not his biggest fan for some very legitimate and serious reasons (and many more you don't want to read about). Not silly, frivolous reasons.
However, that was Obama the candidate, not Obama the new United States president. While I worry greatly about the direction our nation is headed, and will be duty bound to express my opposition (could even be loud sometimes, yeah, just sometimes) on the issues, I will not spend every minute until the next election hating President Obama. Hatred gets us nowhere but to more hatred, and no solutions. Instead, I will be thankful that I live in a country where I get a voice, I get a say. And sometimes that means that I don't get my way. Yet, as part of living in the greatest free nation in the world we don't plan a coup, no blood is shed, no one dies.
We simply lick our wounds, and as Socialchick said, pray for our new leaders. I realize that there are issues that might one day cause me to choose between my country and my faith, but thankfully we are not yet living in those days. So I choose to continue to fight for what I believe is right and just, but to fight fairly, without hate and mean spiritedness.
And in this election, be proud to be living in the historic day when an African American has been elected to lead our nation. Truly an amazing day for not only a group of people, but our country as a whole. I'd like to think in itself it shows just how much we can move past hatred. I think Mike Huckabee said it best:
(yes, I know better than to start a sentence with and. sometimes you've just got to do what you've got to do.)
Thanks for this. It will be difficult to support a man with such a different moral compass but I will pray daily for him and our country.

Very well said. I miss you on the blogs and hope you are back!

Perfectly put. He was not my choice, but he is, in fact, now my president. With that he will get my prayers and respect.

I hadn't seen that clip on Huckabee's show, I couldn't have said that any better myself. I agree, I am proud that I am an American and anybody can do or become anything they choose too. Obama's policies do scare me, but I do know that nothing happens outside of God's will. All we can do is pray.

I agree! That is a great clip, and it is great that we are still able to voice our opinion freely.
