by photochick~ i needed a mental break this morning so i clicked over to my bloglines account where i realized that i haven't checked the "word of a day" blog in weeks. odd indeed because i really do love words (i know, more evidence that i'm a nerd. i'm good with that!).
my love of words probably began when i used to watch my dad read the dictionary growing up. yes, i said READ the dictionary. so he's the real nerd, and i'm just a nerd wanna-be. actually, i think that means that he could be entirely to blame for my choosing degrees in communications rather than say, a lucritive career in high finance on wall street.
oh, i can't wait to let him in on that one. his response when i told him that i was going to major in communications was something to the effect, "ummm . . . are you sure you don't want to be an engineer? or anything else that you can actually make money doing?"
but enough psycho babble analysis for the day. here's the two words i found:
nebbish \NEB-ish\, noun:
A weak-willed, timid, or ineffectual person.
plenipotentiary \plen-uh-puh-TEN-shee-air-ee; -shuh-ree\, noun:
1. A person invested with full power to transact any business; especially, an ambassador or diplomatic agent with full power to negotiate a treaty or to transact other business.
isn't it odd how sometimes God can just remind you so gently of what His Word says in the most unsuspecting way. like on dictionary.com.
i was having a bad day yesterday. no need for details, but sufficed to say that a few tears were shed. honestly, over legitimately tear-worthy subjects. but then i read the definitin for these two words and was reminded that i must choose every day to walk in the truth of God's word in my life.
i am NOT nebbish. not weak. not timid.
i AM plenipoteniary. am walking with the full power of God in my life. am a child of God endowed with power by accepting His invitation to walk in grace.
all the courts of praise chicks and readers will no doubt get all that i'm saying. all that we have been taught over and over again about how in Bible days a child was truly endowed with the power of His father to do business at a certain age, a certain maturity. like when the business changed it's sign out front from reading "smith" to read "smith and sons." that moment when the father looked at his son and said, "i trust you with everything i have. your word is as good as mine."
as a child of God we are similarly entrusted. not in a "we're all little Gods way," but in a purely honest acceptance of all God has for us way. to give into God's will above our own. to become more and more like Him until we no longer have to fight so hard to walk daily in that will and that power.
i want my name on that sign. so i choose today to remember and BELIEVE in my hearr that i am plenipoteniary.
now you choose.
I'm sorry you had a bad day. I hope it's getting better.
Thanks for reminding us that we are plenipoteniary through our Heavenly Father. Even if my personality tends to lean toward being nebbish at times. When I am weak, He is strong.
Oh and thanks for the vocab lesson. This will probably be the one and only time I use these words, but who knows.
